Air Conditioning In Grantham | Year Round Comfort

I install, service and repair air conditioning systems for homes and small commercial properties across Grantham and the surrounding areas of Lincolnshire.

Every job starts with a free site visit so I can look at the room, the wall construction and where the outdoor unit can sensibly go, followed by a clear, written quote before anything is booked in.

One System For Heating & Cooling

One System For Heating & Cooling

Modern air conditioning is not just for hot weather. The same unit that cools your home in July will heat it efficiently in January, which makes it one of the most flexible ways to control the temperature in a room all year round.

  • Room By Room Control: You heat or cool only the rooms you are actually using, rather than firing up the whole central heating system.
  • Fast Response: A room reaches a comfortable temperature within minutes rather than waiting for a full set of radiators to warm through.
  • No Wet Pipework: There are no radiators, no flue and no fuel to store, which makes it a sensible option for extensions, conversions and rooms where adding to the existing heating system would be awkward.
  • Cleaner, Drier Air: The system filters the air as it circulates and removes moisture, which helps in rooms prone to condensation.
  • Year Round Value: You are paying for one system that earns its keep in both directions, rather than a cooling unit that sits idle for nine months of the year.

Air Conditioning Installation

A standard domestic installation consists of an indoor unit, usually wall mounted high on an external wall, and an outdoor condenser unit sited outside at ground level or on brackets. The two are linked by insulated refrigerant pipework, a condensate drain and a power supply, run through a small core drilled hole in the wall.

Sizing matters more than most people expect. An undersized unit runs flat out and never quite gets there, while an oversized one cycles on and off, which is both less efficient and less comfortable.

During the site visit I work out what the room actually needs based on its size, aspect, glazing and insulation, rather than guessing from floor area alone.

I fit single split systems for one room and multi split systems where several rooms run from a single outdoor unit, which keeps the outside of the property tidier.

A single room installation is usually a one day job. A multi room system typically takes two to three days depending on pipework runs.

I will also talk through where the pipework can be concealed and where the outdoor unit will be least intrusive, both visually and in terms of noise, before any work is agreed.

Panasonic, Mitsubishi & Daikin Systems

I install AC units from Panasonic, Mitsubishi and Daikin, three of the most reliable manufacturers in the industry.

All three offer quiet, efficient inverter systems with good heating performance in cold weather, sensible warranty terms and parts availability that will not leave you waiting weeks if something ever needs replacing.

Which one suits you best depends on the room, the budget and how visible the indoor unit will be, and I will give you an honest recommendation rather than pushing whichever brand happens to be easiest for me to get hold of.

Air Conditioning Servicing & Maintenance

Air conditioning needs annual servicing for the same reason a boiler does. Filters clog, coils collect dust, condensate drains block and refrigerant performance drifts, and all of that shows up as higher running costs and weaker output long before it shows up as a breakdown.

A service typically includes:

  • Filter & Coil Clean: Cleaning the indoor filters and heat exchanger so airflow and efficiency are restored.
  • Refrigerant & Pressure Check: Checking operating pressures and looking for any sign of a leak.
  • Condensate Drain Check: Clearing the drain and checking any pump, since a blockage here is the usual cause of water dripping from an indoor unit.
  • Electrical & Controls Test: Testing connections, sensors, thermostats and remote controls.
  • Outdoor Unit Inspection: Clearing debris from the fins and fan and checking the unit for damage or corrosion.

Most manufacturers make their warranty conditional on regular servicing, so keeping up with it protects the money you have already spent on the system.

Air Conditioning Repairs

If your system has stopped heating or cooling properly, is showing an error code, has started making an unfamiliar noise or is dripping water into the room, I can come out and diagnose it. The most common faults I see are blocked filters, condensate drain blockages, refrigerant leaks, failed sensors or thermostats and fan or capacitor faults.

City & Guilds Qualified

I hold City & Guilds qualifications and bring over 20 years of heating and plumbing experience to every air conditioning job. That background matters more than it might sound, because getting a system to heat a property correctly is a heating problem first and an air conditioning problem second.

Every installation is carried out to manufacturer specification and the relevant regulations, with the proper documentation handed over at the end.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does air conditioning really work as heating in winter?

Yes. In heating mode a modern unit works as an air source heat pump, extracting warmth from the outside air and delivering it indoors. Inverter systems from Panasonic, Mitsubishi and Daikin continue to produce useful heat well below freezing, and output is more than enough for a typical UK winter.

  • Is air conditioning expensive to run?

It is considerably cheaper than most people assume. Because the system moves heat rather than generating it, it typically returns three to five units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses, which makes it far cheaper than direct electric heating and competitive with running your central heating for a single room.

  • Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?

In most domestic cases an external unit can be fitted under permitted development, provided it is sensibly sited and meets the conditions on position and noise. Listed buildings, flats and conservation areas have their own rules, so I will flag anything relevant when I quote.

  • How often should air conditioning be serviced?

Once a year. Annual servicing keeps efficiency and output where they should be, prevents the most common faults, and is usually a condition of the manufacturer's warranty.

  • Can one unit heat or cool a whole house?

Not usually. A single indoor unit serves the room it is fitted in, though a multi split system runs several indoor units from one outdoor condenser, which is the normal approach when you want to cover several rooms without a condenser unit for each one.
